In the past 24 hours, I have had frozen Dijorno cheese pizza. Pizza originally originates from Naples, Italy. The frozen pizza I had is produced in a Pizza Productions Systems known as Raque which manufactures pizza. Using one machine known as the Waterfall Application Unit, the machine pours sauce over the entire pizza, usually multiple pizzas at a time. It takes the pizzas approximately 2-3 business days to make it to the grocery store once they have been manufactured at the Pizza Productions System. Considering that the machines can make anywhere from 10-20 pizzas at one time, it takes a lot of energy to fuel the machine. Once the pizzas are made they are ready to be packaged and are placed in cardboard which is a recyclable resource.

I think that I could do better with making more sustainable food choices which are more environmentally friendly. It is sometimes difficult to make sustainable food choices as a college student, because many times I do not think about how my food decisions have an impact on the environment. Frozen pizzas are not very sustainable food choices and do take a lot of energy and resources from the environment to make.

When trying to make decisions on food, I try to use local choices when shopping for food products. I usually go to whatever stores are convenient and whatever grocery store is closest. Since Target is the closest food store to me, I do most of my food shopping there.

I can improve my food choices by choosing food that is more sustainable and environmentally friendly. I can also choose food that doesn’t use as much energy or water to make or I can also prepare food on my own. Growing my own food or purchasing food from places such as the food forest is also a way that I can improve my food choices.
